Two weeks ago, the Guardian, in collaboration with the Rockefeller Foundation, unveiled a new section of its website — Guardian Cities — so to shine a spotlight on the urbanisation of the world, whilst highlighting resilience, environmental, sustainability, social, and poverty issues…

The third and final day of the School+ WORKSHOP consisted out of a series of short brainstorms, instant projections and rapid, though critical, conclusions by the several teams. We saw floating schools being finalized, vertical schools structurally analyzed, new learning environment stacked and launched and the time after school programmed in a playful manner. The second day of the School+ WORKSHOP started with a series of lectures. First by Prof. Li Xiaodong 李晓东 [Li XiaoDong Atelier 李晓东工作室 /Tsinghua School of Architecture] on reflexive regionalism, followed by presentations of Antti Ahlava, Jussi Palva & Riina Palva, WANG Shuo 王硕 and CHE Fei 车飞 zooming in on the Chinese educational environments in relation to their practice. The first day of the School+ WORKSHOP – bringing together young Chinese and Finnish architectural practices, along with teachers and students from Tsinghua’s School of Architecture – consisted of a series of excursions to innovative educational environments in Beijing 北京 – such as the Family Box & Tsinghua Primary School, followed by a site-visit to Baja urban village [located Northeast of Tsinghua University] and concluded by the launch of World Architecture Magazine 《世界建筑》 – issue on Finnish Architecture and a Finnish Architecture Symposium at Tsinghua University – School of Architecture 清华大学 – 建筑学院. read more »
MovingCities, together with Newly Drawn [画卷初成] and World Architecture Magazine [WA]《世界建筑》杂志 organizes a three-day ‘School+ WORKSHOP‘ & symposium from March 23rd to 25th. Hosted by the School of Architecture – Tsinghua University [清华大学建筑学院] , in Beijing 北京, the workshop is part of the 2012 EU-China Year of Intercultural Dialogue.

The second day [see day one] of the Finland/Shenzhen Architecture Tour presented a diverse Shenzhen 深圳. Starting in the VANKE Shenzhen headquarters, the group of 20 Finnish architects moved on to Shenzhen Tower (441.8 meter) and via the Shenzhen University – Dept. Arch ended up in the opening ceremony of 2011 Shenzhen-Hongkong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture featuring a performance by Finnish architect-musician Tuomas Toivonen. read more »

The first day of the two-day program [see day two] started in the Shenzhen Center for Design 都市实践 with a discussion/presentation on the topic of ‘Finland-Shenzhen Symposium on Architectural Competitions‘ 深圳×芬兰建筑设计竞赛座谈会邀请, continued with visits to and meetings with local architecture offices and real-estate developers. MovingCities proudly invites/supports/presents the ARCHITECTS IN THE ‘HOUSE‘ – Finland’s architecture party! Tunes and theories by architects-musicians Tuomas Toivonen & Martti Kalliala. Next Wednesday, DEC 7th – at Idutang OCT in Shenzhen – starting at 9pm – they’ll play, perform and plan till late. The event is hosted by Helsinki World Design Capital 2012, as part of the 2011 Shenzhen-Hongkong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture-program.
