Next Wednesday, DEC 7th – at Idutang OCT in Shenzhen – starting at 9pm – they’ll play, perform and plan till late. The event is hosted by Helsinki World Design Capital 2012, as part of the 2011 Shenzhen-Hongkong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture-program.

This week the French photographer and artist JR is working in and with the city of Shanghai on a project called The Wrinkles of the City 城市肌理. The anonymous artist hit this week the international spotlights, as he received the 2011 TED Prize for his work. In preparation for his upcoming show at Magda Danysz Gallery in Shanghai, JR and his crew were working in a dilapidated area in Shanghai. With a two and a half month hiatus, MovingCities is following up on the hutong destruction around Gulou Subway Station. After introducing the area and the discussion about Beijing‘s hutong preservation/hallucinations, we now look at half-hutongs: a combination of dust and debris, bricks, and semi-transparent green plastic meshes covering rubble and ruins. Snapshots of semi-structures followed by a short intro to Instant Hutong‘s latest project: URBAN CARPET 8×5.
