The third and final day of the School+ WORKSHOP consisted out of a series of short brainstorms, instant projections and rapid, though critical, conclusions by the several teams. We saw floating schools being finalized, vertical schools structurally analyzed, new learning environment stacked and launched and the time after school programmed in a playful manner. A couple of weeks ago, MovingCities received ‘Pressures and Distortions‘, published by The Research Program of Rafael Viñoly Architects. The book has the ambition to “look at the design, building, and interpretation of cities from the point of view of their residents”. Discussing cities in China [Shanghai 上海 and Shenzhen 深圳], Indonesia [Banda Aceh] and Latin America [Bogotá and Mexico City; along with short sections covering Lima and Rio de Janeiro]. We were left wondering about this book’s audience and how to analyze and/or further its content and findings.Details
The second day of the School+ WORKSHOP started with a series of lectures. First by Prof. Li Xiaodong 李晓东 [Li XiaoDong Atelier 李晓东工作室 /Tsinghua School of Architecture] on reflexive regionalism, followed by presentations of Antti Ahlava, Jussi Palva & Riina Palva, WANG Shuo 王硕 and CHE Fei 车飞 zooming in on the Chinese educational environments in relation to their practice. MovingCities, together with Newly Drawn [画卷初成] and World Architecture Magazine [WA]《世界建筑》杂志 organizes a three-day ‘School+ WORKSHOP‘ & symposium from March 23rd to 25th. Hosted by the School of Architecture – Tsinghua University [清华大学建筑学院] , in Beijing 北京, the workshop is part of the 2012 EU-China Year of Intercultural Dialogue.
Public lectures on Friday March 23rd, start from 4pm onwards.
While en route from Shanghai 上海 to Brussels, the plane made a stop-over in Moscow. It was election Sunday in Russia’s capital, but on the runway, in the tax-free shops and airport lounges, it was business as usual. Or so, it looked like.
