The third installment of the 2012/13 “Shanghai State of Affairs” lecture series by Bert de Muynck at the HKU Shanghai Study Center is centered around ‘Updating & Rethinking Shanghai’s Design & Architecture’. Invited speaker this Saturday is Lyndon Neri [Founding Partner NHDRO] who will talk about the experience of practicing, over a decade, from and in Shanghai 上海.

The first day of the School+ WORKSHOP – bringing together young Chinese and Finnish architectural practices, along with teachers and students from Tsinghua’s School of Architecture – consisted of a series of excursions to innovative educational environments in Beijing 北京 – such as the Family Box & Tsinghua Primary School, followed by a site-visit to Baja urban village [located Northeast of Tsinghua University] and concluded by the launch of World Architecture Magazine 《世界建筑》 – issue on Finnish Architecture and a Finnish Architecture Symposium at Tsinghua University – School of Architecture 清华大学 – 建筑学院. On December 20-21, the School of Architecture – China Academy of Art, in Hangzhou 杭州  – hosted the 1st International Symposium ‘Localized Architecture Resources and Innovational Development‘. Under the theme ´The Protection and Redevelopment of Rammed Earth Architecture夯土建筑保护与再发展, various presentations were held; followed by the opening of ‘People’s Architecture’-exhibition, presenting works of Taiwanese architect Hsieh Ying-Chun 謝英俊. From September 2011 onwards, Bert de Muynck | MovingCities has been appointed ‘assistant professor’ at the The University of Hong Kong – Faculty of Architecture, teaching the course on ‘Architecture Theory and History [20th Century]’ at HKU Shanghai Study Centre.
